An appeal challenges the charge.
A complaint challenges the process.
Keep both clear, documented and on time.
Start with the operator’s complaints policy
Identify the conduct you are complaining about, with dates and supporting documents. Explain the remedy you want: for example, the missing rejection letter, a verification code or a written explanation. Ask for a complaint reference.
Use the escalation stages
Follow the operator’s published escalation process and retain its final response. Check the policy for timescales and use the designated contact route.
When the BPA may help
The BPA deals with compliance complaints about its members, not appeals against individual charges. Its current public guidance directs motorists to its complaint portal after the operator process, including where a correctly submitted complaint has received no response within 28 days. Supply your complaint, proof of submission, responses and relevant evidence.
What to include
- A concise dated timeline and the operator’s name.
- The specific procedural issue, with copies of the relevant correspondence.
- The operator’s final complaint response, or evidence of non-response.
- A clear request for a compliance review, rather than an appeal decision.
